Parallel or Series? In general, when selecting a power supply, it is important to choose one with appropriate voltage and current rating to support the system requirements. Typically, power supplies are connected in parallel to increase the power/current rating and also to increase the system reliability by providing redundancy function. Series connection of power supplies can cater to special needs of the system when requiring higher output voltages.
Power disruption and shutdown can be very annoying and may even be costly at times. There are various methods to maintain zero down time for a system like adding backup powers by using generators or adding Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS). A DC-UPS would be a simpler, more efficient and cheaper option for the user.
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in 2014 published the updated revision of the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements for medical devices, the IEC 60601-1-2:2014, so called 4th edition, with an effective date of April 1, 2017.
Delta CliQ series of products feature Power Boost and Advanced Power Boost (APB) features to enhance the reliability of a system. This article addresses the technology and key functions behind the two features.
